A STORY OF TRANSFORMATION
Piedad first connected with Second Chances Ecuador through her son, who attends the Hope Center in Carapungo. When she was invited to join the artisan program, she saw it as an opportunity to learn a new skill and earn some extra income for her family. Although she had experience with other crafts, working with tagua—a natural material from Ecuador—was a new challenge. From the very first piece she created, Piedad felt the joy of discovery, the satisfaction of mastering something new, and the peace that comes from using the creative gifts God has placed in her hands.
The impact has gone far beyond financial help. With the income from her artisan work, Piedad has been able to meet important needs for her household, such as buying food and essentials for her children. More importantly, she has found motivation, community, and both emotional and spiritual support. Being surrounded by other mothers who share their struggles reminds her that she is not alone—and that God walks with her every step of the way. She has also witnessed beautiful changes in her children: they now enjoy a safe, healthy environment at the Hope Center, with psychological support and opportunities to grow, learn, and build healthy relationships.
Today, Piedad dreams of refining her skills, launching her own small business, and continuing to care for her children as they grow and thrive. Her message to other women facing hard times is full of hope: “Everything passes, and what you’ve lived through has a purpose. With God, He will help you overcome any challenge.”
At Second Chances Ecuador, Piedad’s journey is a living testimony that when God opens a door, He transforms not just one life—but the future of an entire family.
